Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? Here are some answers...

* How are “Tritium” and “Tri-Phazer” pronounced?

T-r-i-t-i-u-m = (Trih-Tee-Um) and T-r-i-p-h-a-z-e-r = (Try-Fay-Zur)

* Are Tri-Phazers directional?

No. Tri-Phazer technology will work the same regardless of the direction it is placed in the signal chain. An arrow may be on the unit just to suppress any confusion.

* Is it better to put my Tri-Phazers closer to the amplifier or the speakers?

Placement of Tri-Phazers does not make an audible difference we can hear.  The only time it may affect the sound might be through a 50-200 foot signal snake. Otherwise, just place the Tri-Phazers wherever they fit best in the system.

* What does “Break-In” mean and why does it matter?

THIS IS CRITICALLY IMPORTANT! Break-In refers the playback time needed for your Speaker system to adjust and adapt to the signal it is being fed. Speakers require a certain amount of Re-break-in before reaching maximum operating capabilities. Every time the signal path is altered (new cables, receiver, amplifier, DAC’s, etc...), the system has to re-break in. And this break-in time will vary based on the severity of the change, how long they have been working in the present signal chain, and the volume level and duration of playback.

Because of drastic changes made in the signal envelope, Tri-Phazers will usually require about 25 hours of robust playback before reaching the initial or nominal break-in point. After that your system will continue to improve indefinately with continued playback.

Mature Re-break-in is when a system reaches around one hundred of hours of playback.

The easiest way to break in your system is to get it loud and listen to music.

You can read here for more about Break-In and why it’s so important.

* My sound degrades in quality every so often. What’s going on?

This will occasionally occur for short spurts during the Break-In period. Think of it as “shaking the cob webs out of your speakers.” During this Break-In process, the entire system is reconfiguring how it takes in, processes, and outputs sound. Everything is changing and this is especially true for speakers, where electrical signals are being transformed into mechanical energy. Speakers, over time, will “get used to” moving and reacting to signals in a certain fashion. Once that signal is drastically altered by Tri-Phazers to be more linear and balanced, and it will take time for speakers’ mechanics to reshape and readjust how they react. This is only temporary and is usually proceeded by a very large jump in performance. This “drop and jump” will also go away as Break-In is further achieved, and speakers will then just continue to perform better and better.

* Once the speaker has broken in on a Tri-Phazer, I can just remove the Tri-Phazer right?

If a Tri-Phazer is removed after conditioning the speakers and system, the same “Re-Break-In” process will occur, since the signal path has once again changed. What will happen is that over time, speakers and system components will degrade in quality and performance back down to their original states before Tri-Phazers were installed. The same is true if a speaker sits dormant for an extended period of time (months and months, that is...). It will need a short amount of Re-Break-In time again before it returns to it’s Tri-Phazed state of performance.

* Are Tri-Phazers an FX plugin?

No. Tri-Phazers are more of an Audio Conditioner. There are not any adjustments on Tri-Phazers that will alter the sound the way an Effects Unit would do.

With Tri-Phazers, incoming audio signals are repaired and realigned, bringing back the linearity, natural timing, and feel that had become skewed from the audio process chain.

Once the audio signal has been Tri-phazed and returned to its original state, gear in turn will be able to utilize the signal more effectively. Processing the signal becomes more efficient as it is less restricted by distortion.

* What does the power rating on Tri-Phazers mean?

The wattage rating denotes the nominal usage power range of the Tri-Phazer, A 75 watt X-100 will easily handle 200 watts, But will give the best performance at normal listening levels.

* Is there a preferred order of upgrading my system to Tri-phazed Technology?

ABSOLUTELY!

Although it is not required, this order of Tri-Phazing your system will allow you the listener to really get a good understanding of the changes being made at each phase of the signal upgrade chain. In addition, adding them in this order will produce more dramatic results faster as it is adding a level of Tri-Phazing in front of the already conditioned signal.

NOTE: Speaker level Tri-Phazers should always be the first upgrade as it is repairing the most variable interface first - that being the relationship between amplifier and speakers.

This order will maximize the enjoyment and effectiveness from your Tri-Phazed system:

TRI-PHAZER UPGRADE PATH TO ULTIMATE PERFORMANCE

    1. Speaker Level
    2. Line Level
    3. Tritium Platinum Interconnects
    4. Tri-phazer Power Conditioner

* Where should I install my Power Tri-Phazers for the biggest difference?

Power Tri-Phazers will make the most noticeable impact in gear at the lowest signal level
These include:

    • CD Players
    • Preamplifiers
    • Microphone Preamps
    • Mixing Consoles
    • LCD TV's (yes, televisions...)

These are usually the best places for them, although most all devices will benefit from the Clean AC power conditioning a Tri-Phazer can deliver.

* Where can Tri-Phazers be used?

Tri-Phazers can be used anywhere the signal is transferred.
Boomboxes, Bookshelf stereos, Home Theaters, Automotive systems, Cellphones, Ipods, Televisions, Guitar Amps, PA’s, Mixers, CD players, Recording Studios, Radio Stations, Movie Theaters, Concert Venues, Department of Defense, the list can go on and on...Please see our Applications page.

* What with the Guarantee?

We at Tritium firmly stand behind our product and what it can do for ANY AND EVERY SYSTEM. That’s why we confidently offer a 30-day Money Back Guarantee with every Tri-Phazer purchase.

We GUARANTEE POSITIVE RESULTS and INCREASED PERFORMANCE from ANY AUDIO SYSTEM, or your money back.

100% money back Guarantee "No excuses, No hassel, No BS",  That simple.

* What is Skew Distortion?

SKEW DISTORTION OCCURS IN EVERY PIECE OF AUDIO GEAR REGARDLESS OF QUALITY.

Due to non-linearities in the way signals travel, the electromagnetic envelope becomes distorted as it travels through wire and components, etc...

You can read more about Skew Distortion on the Tour.

* How are Tri-Phazers different from other similar products? I’ve seen the “little black boxes” before and been disappointed.

There are many other products that claim similar results, but ALL fall far short of delivering what Tri-Phazers can. Some consumers, as a result, have become some what timid in regards to products like these, and with just cause. What they need to understand is this: Those other products are active FX processors, which will change or color the sound. Our patented technology repairs and conditions the sound passively to act in a more balanced and linear fashion. As a result, our product doesn’t need “processing level” controls, dials, and knobs to adjust how the sound is processed. Just input, Tri-Phaze, output.

* Can I measure my changes in performance with Tri-Phazers?

Yes you can!

Triphazers will show definite gains in system efficiency.

You can measure the efficiency by reading the Sound Pressure Level (SPL) gains from before and after Tri-Phazer installation (after Break-In of course).

Because of the increase in efficiency, Tri-Phazers will deliver SPL gains of at least 5-7 Decibels and upwards of 9-12 Decibels in your system at FAR below the distortion levels previous to installation! And with sound doubling in loudness every 3 decibels, that is a lot of extra clean power for your system!

* Any other specifications about Tri-Phazers?

Tri-Phazers require no AC power.
Tri-Phazers deliver a 100% flat frequency response through the entire spectrum.
Tri-Phazers work completely transparently in a system with ZERO coloration.
Tri-Phazers correct a skewed magnetic envelope and provide even delivery of the audio spectrum, as it was meant to be heard.

* I have X-20’s, but I want X-100’s. Do you take trade ins?

Yes we do. We understand that sometimes, everyone just wants a little more. And we want to help bring that to you. Call ahead or email to discuss what you have, and what you’d like to have, and we will be more than happy to offer credit towards a different set.

* I have my Tri-Phazer hooked up, but hear no sound. Why?

Confirm it is the correct application for the correct Tri-Phazer. Line Level will not function on a speaker and vice versa. On a Speaker Tri-Phazer, check your all your connections, Try a different interconnect or speaker wire to eliminate the cause.

* Can I use one Power Tri-Phazer on a 6 outlet power strip and get 6 Tri-Phazed outlets?

Unfortunately, not. While the power strip will still work, the effectiveness will be miniscule compared to that of a single dedicated outlet benefiting from Power Tri-Phazer conditioning. Gear will show vast performance improvements from a single conditioned signal and an isolated supply.

* Can I Tri-Phaze my MP3’s and restore them to original CD quality?

While you cannot return what is lost in a down conversion to MP3 you can improve and return the timing and balance of the original performance for a huge improvement in musicality.

We have found that HD tracks, SACD and HDCD, are NOT the answer as thay have been sold.

With out returning the music to the original envelope audio performance is stuck at about 20% of the systems True capability.
