Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions? We have answers...
* How are “Tritium” and “Tri-Phazer” pronounced?
(Trih-Tee-Um) and (Try-Fay-Zur)
* Are Tri-Phazers directional?
No. Tri-Phazer technology will work the same regardless of the direction it is placed in the signal chain. An arrow may be on the unit just to suppress any confusion.
* Is it better to put my Tri-Phazers closer to the amplifier or the speakers?
Placement of Tri-Phazers does not make an audible difference. The distance of a signal cable between the two components (amplifier and speakers) is short enough that no noticeable amount of skew will have built back up through 15 or 20 feet of speaker cable. The only time it may affect the sound slightly would be through a 50-100 foot signal snake. Otherwise, feel free to just place the Tri-Phazers wherever they fit best in the room.
* What does “Break-In” mean and why does it matter?
Because of such drastic changes Triphazers make in the signal, Your system will require an initial period of solid playback before components in the playback chain (90% speakers) start to break in. After the nominal break-in time, your system will continue to improve with continued playback.
You can read here for more about Break-In and why it’s so important.
* My sound degrades in quality every so often. What’s going on?
This will occasionally occur for short spurts during the Break-In period. Think of it as “shaking the cob webs out of your speakers.” During this Break-In process, the entire system is reconfiguring how it takes in, processes, and outputs sound. Everything is changing and this is especially true for speakers, where electrical signals are being transformed into mechanical energy. Speakers, over time, will “get used to” moving and reacting to signals in a certain fashion. Once that signal is drastically altered by Tri-Phazers to be more linear and balanced, and it will take time for speakers’ mechanics to reshape and readjust how they react. This is only temporary and is usually proceeded by a very large jump in performance. This “drop and jump” will also go away as Break-In is further achieved, and speakers will then just continue to perform better and better.
* Once the speaker has broken in on a Tri-Phazer, I can just remove the Tri-Phazer right?
If a Tri-Phazer is removed after conditioning the speakers and system, a similar “Un-Break-In” process will occur, since the signal path has once again changed. What will happen is that over time again, speakers and system components will degrade in quality and performance back down to their original states before Tri-Phazers were installed. The same is true if a speaker sits dormant for an extended period of time (months and months, that is...). It will need a short amount of Re-Break-In time again before it returns to it’s Tri-Phazed state of performance.
* Are Tri-Phazers an FX plugin?
No. Tri-Phazers are more of an Audio Conditioner. There are no adjustments on Tri-Phazers that will alter the sound the way an Effects Unit would do.
With Tri-Phazers, incoming audio signals are repaired and realigned, bringing back the linearity, natural timing, That has become skewed from the audio process chain.
Once the audio signal has been Tri-phazed and returned to its original state, gear in turn will be able to utilize the signal more effectively. Processing the signal becomes more efficient as it is less restricted by distortion.
* What does the Tri-phazer model number on Tri-Phazers mean?
The Model denotes the processing power of the Tri-Phazer. A higher Model number provides more Tri-Phazer signal conditioning.
* Is there a preferred order of upgrading my system to Tri-phazed Technology?
ABSOLUTELY!
Although it is not required, this order of Tri-Phazing your system will allow you the listener to really get a good understanding of the changes being made at each phase of the signal upgrade chain. In addition, adding them in this order will produce more dramatic results faster as it is adding a level of Tri-Phazing in front of the already conditioned signal.
NOTE: Speaker level Tri-Phazers should always be the first upgrade as it is repairing the most variable interface first - that being the relationship and coupling between amplifier and speakers.
This order will maximize the enjoyment and effectiveness from your Tri-Phazed system:
- Speaker Level
- Line Level (and XLR if needed)
- Platinum Interconnects.
- Upgrading to higher level Tri-Phazers.
* Where should I install my Power Tri-Phazers for the biggest difference?
Power Tri-Phazers will make the most noticeable impact on signal producing gear, CD, Mixer, Streamer, Phono.
These include:
- CD Players
- Preamplifiers
- Power Amplifiers
- Guitar, Bass, and Keyboard Amplifiers (Adds great punch and definition)
- Microphone Preamps
- Mixing Consoles
- Televisions (yes, televisions...)
These are usually the best places for them, although most all devices will benefit from the Clean AC power conditioning a Tri-Phazer can deliver.
* Where can Tri-Phazers be used?
Tri-Phazers can be used anywhere the signal is transferred.
Boomboxes, Bookshelf stereos, Home Theaters, Automotive systems, Cellphones, Ipods, Televisions, Guitar Amps, PA’s, Mixers, CD players, Recording Studios, Radio Stations, Movie Theaters, Concert Venues, Department of Defense, the list can go on and on...Please see our Applications page.
* What is with all these Guarantees?
We at Tritium firmly stand behind our product and what it can do for ANY AND EVERY SYSTEM. That’s why we confidently offer a 90-day Money Back Guarantee with every Tri-Phazer purchase.
We GUARANTEE POSITIVE RESULTS and INCREASED PERFORMANCE from ANY SYSTEM DESIGN, or your money back. That simple.
* What is Skew Distortion?
SKEW DISTORTION OCCURS IN EVERY PIECE OF AUDIO GEAR REGARDLESS OF QUALITY.
Due to non-linearities in the way signals travel, their electromagnetic envelope becomes distorted as it travels through wire, capacitors, resistors, diodes, transistors, etc...
You can read more about Skew Distortion on the Tour.
* How are Tri-Phazers different from other similar products? I’ve seen the “little black boxes” before and been disappointed.
There are many other products that claim similar results, but fall short of delivering what Tri-Phazers can. Some consumers, as a result, have become somewhat timid in regards to products like these, and with just cause. What they need to understand is this: Those other products are active FX processors, which will change or color the sound. Our patented technology actually repairs and conditions the sound passively to act in a more balanced and linear fashion. As a result, our product doesn’t need “processing level” controls, dials, and knobs to adjust how the sound is processed. Just input, Tri-Phaze, output.
* Can I measure my changes in performance with Tri-Phazers?
Yes you can!
Triphazers will show definite gains in system efficiency.
You can measure the efficiency by reading the Sound Pressure Level (SPL) gains from before and after Tri-Phazer installation (after Break-In of course).
Because of the increase in efficiency, Tri-Phazers will deliver SPL gains of at least 5-7 Decibels and upwards of 9-12 Decibels in your system below the distortion level previous to installation! And with sound doubling in loudness every 3 decibels, that is a lot of extra clean power for your system
* I have X-20’s, but I want X-100’s. Will there much of an improvement?
Yes there will be a huge improvement. The X-100's have a more complex design and give better Definition, Imaging, Bass and HF Extension. About 10 times the X-20. Guaranteed!
How about take trade in's?
Triphazers have a lifetime trade up policy! Who else can say that?
* I have my Tri-Phazer hooked up, but hear no sound. Why?
Confirm it is the correct application for the correct Tri-Phazer. Line Level will not function on a speaker and vice versa. On a Speaker Tri-Phazer, check your positive and negative connections. These are not interchangeable.
* Can I use one Power Tri-Phazer on a 6 outlet power strip and get 6 Tri-Phazed outlets?
Yes you can but the isolation aspect of Triphazers will be degraded, the effectiveness will be far less compared to that of a single dedicated Power Tri-Phazer for each device. Gear will show greater performance improvement from a single conditioned and isolated source.
* Can I Tri-Phaze my MP3’s and restore them to original CD quality?
Mp3's can be greatly improved in Imaging and Spatiality, but there are limits to what a Triphazer can do
MP3’s use a destructive process for compacting song files for simple storage on hard drives, MP3 players, etc...
The compacting process actually “removes” certain frequencies that tend to consume a lot of space when converting to a digital format. That is how a 50 Megabyte WAV file is compacted down to a 5 Megabyte 128 kbps MP3.
Triphazers make MP3's sound amazing, But there is still information that will aways be missing.
